Using NormaTec Compression Therapy after intense exercise will signficantly speed up your recovery process, allowing you to train harder and perform better. We recommend combining cryotherapy & compression within a few hours after exercise to maximize your recovery process.
NormaTec Compression Therapy is designed for recovery & rehab, using compressed air to massage your legs, arms or hips. The patented NormaTec Pulse Massage pattern moves excess fluids & lactic acid from your tired muscles, and and improves circulation of fresh, oxygenated blood throughout the body, helping you train harder, recover faster and perform better.
What To Expect
Relax & recharge in our NormaTec Lounge during our 30 or 60 minute compression therapy session. You'll stay fully-clothed (other than shoes), and can relax in a comfortable chaise lounge, with music & wi-fi. You'll slip into the boots, sleeves or shorts (hip attachment), and your high-tech massage will begin. During a pre-inflate cycle, the attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The session then begins by compressing our feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading & stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.
NormaTec Compression Therapy can be used both before and after exercise, whether it is routine training or high-level competition. Before exercise, the NormaTec acts as a high-tech massage to warm up your muscles. Pre-workout sessions are generally 10-20 minutes long with a moderate intensity level. Post-workout recovery sessions are generally 20-60 minutes, with a moderate to high intensity level.
Risks, Benefits & Contraindications
The risks & benefits of NormaTec Compression Therapy are the same as having a massage. If the pressure feels uncomfortable, you can reduce the intensity or stop the session at any time. Similar to a massage, the benefits can include the temporary relief of minor muscle aches and pains. It can also temporarily increase circulation in the area being massaged.
You should NOT use NormaTec Compression Therapy if you have any of the following conditions:
- Acute Pulmonary Edema (fluid in the lungs)
- Acute thrombophlebitis or deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Acute congestive heart failure
- Episodes of pulmonary embolism
- Wounds, infection or tumors at or near the site of application
- Bone fractures or dislocations at or near the site of application
- Any circumstance where increased venous & lymphatic return is undesirable.
Appointments & Pricing
Because the NormaTec Compression Therapy sessions are typically 30-60 minutes, we do recommend that you schedule an appointment.
If you plan to do both cryotherapy and compression--which we highly recommend to maximize your recovery--you typically would do cryo first,
but this is not required.
